How to move your computer

Whether you are moving home or office you will need to move your computer. Computers need to be handled carefully so that they are not damaged. This requires special packaging. Whether you have a desktop, lap top, notebook or tablet computer you will need to pack it properly so that it arrives at your new house in working order.

The first thing to do is to back up your data. You can do this on an external hard drive, CD, USB or via the Cloud. Just ensure that you make a copy of everything so that nothing important is lost. This is imperative if you are moving your business as loss of important data could be a disaster. Keep the back-up separate from your computer during the move– such as in your car or on your person so that you know that it is safe. The next thing to do is turn your computer and all of the attached devices off and then unplug them from the mains. Next you should label each of the cables so that you know where each one needs to be reconnected to. These can then be unplugged and wound up. Use electrical ties to keep your cables tidy and together. Next you should unplug your peripherals; these may include the mouse, keyboard, digital camera and microphone. These should be individually bubble wrapped. Your monitor needs added protection. If you have a flat screen you can purchase special protector bags for it. If you have any of the original packaging for your computer you should use this to package it for your move. The original polystyrene is particularly good ad it is molded to the right shape to protect your computer. If you do not have the original packaging, use crates which are designed for electrical items, anti static bubble wrap and keyboard bags. Once your computer is packed up, be sure to label the boxes so that you and your removal men know to be careful when moving them.
